A Galaxy of Longing - 170

Monday, May 10, 2010

Have you ever wanted something so bad you could feel the longing. An empty feeling in your chest just knowing that you will never be able to reach what you want. The Milky Way Galaxy is 5.9 x 10 to the 17th miles in diameter; 100,000 light years across. Imagine that emptiness. Imagine the lump in your throat, the sting of tears in your eyes, the whole in your chest when you realize it is a lost cause.

Stand on one side of the galaxy. Look across. You will never reach what you are longing for. Even if you make it half way through you will be sucked into a black hole like Charybdis sinks boats into the ocean. You have no Scylla, no other option. Your wish, your desire, your longing all being pulled around you with light, stars, time, space. Forever being pulled in a galaxy of longing.

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” – Mark Twain
